Subject Cocktail Home.jpg

You should be comfortable. You should be happy.

Subject is your neighborhood bar even if the Lower East Side is not your neighborhood. Our focus is on locality with regional spirits, small batch beer, and honey from the Catskills.

We want you to get your favorite classic, and then we want to make you something you’ve never had before. Or a beer and shot. We do that, too.

Anything from flip flops to top hats are acceptable. Our hospitality is based on one idea: Try Being Kinder.

This casual haunt serves… highbrow cocktails… alongside beer-and-shot specials and a good-times attitude.
— Time Out New York
Music was uniformly great rock played at the perfect volume: quiet enough that your friends can hear you, loud enough that the folks at the next table won’t. Decor is trendy but unpretentious. Tables are the perfect size. Enough of a crowd at 11pm on a Friday to feel exciting and energized, but not crowded. The bottomless peanuts are an awesome snack. I’ll be back, with friends, ASAP.
— Kat B. - Yelp Review
Subject is quietly responsible for one of the Lower East Side’s best cocktail menus.

Great bar, decent prices, dope bartenders. Beer and a shot for $10? Done, no problems here. Great pre-dinner drink spot for all the awesome places in the area.
— Anna & Blake - Yelp Review
Even divey standbys like beer and shot specials take an innovate approach here.
